The Sacrament of Holy Baptism

Trinity Lutheran Church Baptizes people of all ages, from infancy to adulthood, through water and the Word. The Triune God marks us as one redeemed by Christ the crucified.  As God creates Faith in us, the majority of Trinity's Baptisms are infants.

The Word of God teaches that we are all conceived and born sinful and are under the power of the devil until Christ claims us as His own.  We would be lost forever unless delivered from sin, death, and everlasting condemnation.  But the Father of all mercy and grace has sent His Son Jesus Christ, who atoned for the sin of the whole world, that whoever believes in Him should not parish but have eternal life. Our Baptism is in the name of the Triune God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Sponsors are appointed who confess the faith expressed in the Apostles' Creed and the Small Catechism.  They are to witness the baptism, pray for them, support their ongoing instruction, nurture their Christian faith, and encourage them toward the faithful reception of the Lord's Supper.  They are to be examples of faith life in Christ and love for their neighbor.

Matthew 28:18-20 "Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Mark 16:15-16 "He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned."

1 Peter 3:21 "...this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also—not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God."

Mark 10:13-16 "People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them.  When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.  Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”  And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them."

Acts 16:29-34  "The jailer called for lights, rushed in and fell trembling before Paul and Silas. 30 He then brought them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”  They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.” Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all the others in his house. At that hour of the night the jailer took them and washed their wounds; then immediately he and all his household were baptized.  The jailer brought them into his house and set a meal before them; he was filled with joy because he had come to believe in God—he and his whole household."
